Hi,
yes, you should use FeatureInfoPortlet. I can not say anything about
your map file because I never set up or configured an UMN map server.
But in opposite to iGeoPortal standard edition the portlet edition does
not request text/html as feature info format but GML2. For an OGC WMS
1.1.0 and 1.1.1 compliant WMS this is the only format that must be
supported.
If you are not sure about what your WMS returns you should perform a
GetFeatureInfo request manually by entering the request
(info_format=application/vnd.ogc.gml or without parameter info_format)
into your web browser and see what the UMN returns.
