Does anyone know of a place where I can get an AO of a person walking with a cane?
I tried Virtual Ability, but if there's one there, I can't find it.

I have one that says it's from SkyShop
(http://slurl.com/secondlife/Walleye/35/233/352), but I just went
there and I can't find it. I must have bought it ages ago.   You might
try poking around there yourself and doing some deep detective work.
I'd send you a copy of mine in world, but it's no copy/no mod.

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)
There is also a free cane and guide dog with quite detailed scripting for free located at Supporte 129, 208, 39. They have a Vision Quest to work you through using the items.

About two years ago, I had a difficult time finding any AO that looked like
a stately Ascot walk. I paid an animator to create a custom AO that turned
out a bit too cartoony of an old slumped over old man walking with a cane.
Seems the animator did not understand what the Ascot scene from My Fair Lady
looked like.

I have since learned that the walking speed cannot be slowed down simply
with an AO. Walking speed is a function of the SL physics and the force that
is applied to the avatar which is a fixed amount. It may require a vehicle
script. As yet, my efforts to find a "Slow Walk" has proved fruitless and it
is a sign of the fact that even in our virtual world, there seems to be a
pervasive need for speed.

Hope you find a decent AO. Please let up know how you make out.

For the Divers Alert Network (DAN) sim, we had a diving AO made. The creator, Candide LeMay, was able to slow down the avatar with the AO. It's available for free with the free diving gear on the DAN island. ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/DAN/84/130/52 ) The AO detects the Linden water to work as well. Contact him if you have questions. I'll see if I can share the relevant part of the script that Candide made for us.

(The free diving gear and related items are in the building on the island at the slurl pasted above.)

Dorie,

I was happy to return to the DAM sim. Swimming underwater is always fun in SL. I wore the AO that is dispensed at the DAN sim and also brought along my walking speed meter. What I learned is that the swimming speed underwater (with the AO) is in a range that is similar to a walk. It ranged from approximately 3.10 Meters per Second (mps) to approximately 3.50 mps. For reference, the speed of a walk on level ground is very constant at about 3.19 mps.  Thanks though. One more method to cross off my list of things to try till I find the holy grail of “Slow Walks”.

Yes.  In SL, search for   cane walk azumi

There is a male AO with a cane and a distinguished walk and stand.
I can put up an animation of it if you like.

Thanks, folks- the problem is solved. :)

My friend needed a cane and walk that would indicate disability, as opposed to evoking images of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or a Victorian papa out on a stroll.
I don't suppose I have to tell all of you what the majority of your search responses are, when you search for 'cane' in SL. :)
