I was just perusing the Parish Statistics for 2007, and I noticed that the parish of Sunshine/Braybrook is reporting an average Sunday attendance of 5442! And their average weekly attendance is a modest 8890.  Since I'm sure the Diocese wouldn't have made a clerical error, either there is a mighty work of God going on in the West or someone at Sunshine has been 'rounding up' their figures a bit aggressively.

Hmmm

There are lots and lots of typos historically in the parish stats. I had to do a lot of data cleansing on it all when I tried to do some analysis on it.

Andrew,

It might not be a revival - it could all be transfer growth!

In any case, it looks like we have our first DoM megachurch.

That means average weekly attendance if correct is almost the size of the entire Tasmanian Diocese! (I suspect someone along the way has meddled with the figures.)

No meddling of the figures. I think just a mis-print.
And may God please prevent us from becoming a mega-church. A  fate worse than death no doubt.
Just faithful people from the West meeting in communion to share in the blessed sacraments, hear and proclaim the Word of God, and support and love eachother as our saviour commanded us, despite the difficulty of the circumstances many of our congregation live.

Thanks Ken, it's good to hear about faithful people serving Jesus around the city. This little misprint just illustrated for me the amusing side of our use of figures and money to judge 'success' in the church, however useful those measurements might be in some ways.

Does anyone remember the collectors edition of the Diocesan Yearbook (2004?) with the front cover:

"Diocese of Melborne"

Was it a Melborne Anglican who said

"Typos can change the world... or maybe just the word"

The most famous typo of all: you should celebrate ... you should be celibate?!

or was that a transcription error?
