I decided to turn Shakespear's A Midsummer Night's Dream into something readable on a visual novel engine.  The script is almost word for word (that was part of the idea; I thought plays would convert over pretty well).  This isn't a very serious project, other than the words, though (although they're not arranged poetically, as that wouldn't work so well in this format).  The art is all I could find (for free), given the time that went into it—and I wasn't about to draw my own.  (There are a lot of characters!)  There is no music what-so-ever (If you have any to add, let me know).  You'll notice that the character art appears at the top in the middle.  That might seem odd, but it was a lot easier that way.  I might change that when I have time.  Nevertheless, it might be entertaining:

Downloads:
Windows (you can get this to work on Linux, as well, I believe, through the shell script or the python file, but you'll need to make the GNU folder lowercase; there don't appear to be any problems if you use Wine, either; the original files I uploaded for Windows, Linux and Macintosh were deleted somehow—you can view it through the source below if you have Ren'Py)
Ren'Py source, script and images (this should be buildable to workable versions for all three platforms (Linux, Macintosh and Windows); the gnu folder is lowercase here)

After you unzip or decompress the file you download, open the folder and run the executable.  This will start the game (there is no setup file).

If you have any art or music you would like to contribute, to improve upon this, let me know.  Also, if there is anything else you know of that would make it better (without changing the script too much—it's meant to be the real play, word-wise), let me know.  Let me know if this doesn't work on Windows 98/ME (it does use UTF-8 encoding, for the em dashes).  It should work on anything at or beyond Windows 2000.

Ren'Py was the visual novel engine I used.

Well, it's roughly done, already—I don't have plans to do anything else (but, if you or anyone else wants to, feel free). I know it's not that great (don't take this as an example of what visual novels from me will be like, in future). It's not quite a 'visual novel' per se, anyway. I personally prefer it without the pictures I put in there, as they're just random pictures, and the randomness detracts from the story somewhat (though it 'might' be a little humorous at times). Really, it's just the play in visual novel format—not a true visual novel. The download link is in the first post of this thread. Really, you can just look at this as a certain kind of eBook.

I plan to do this with a lot of plays, since it's pretty easy—only, I'll probably leave pictures out of future ones, unless I find some good ones (especially since Nabble has file size limits, now; I'll have to post anything bigger on the renai.us forums). Really, I just think reading plays in Ren'Py like this makes them easier to read, follow, and visualize (not to mention all the additional functionality Ren'Py offers automatically). The lack of pictures will minimize the download (actually, I might just distribute the Ren'Py scripts, seeing as it would save a lot of bandwidth).

I'll probably do Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand, next, since we're reading that for a book club right now, and I don't have a satisfactory eBook reader for Project Gutenberg texts. Actually, I have yet to find any eBook reader for any purpose that I find practical for myself (seeing as they generally limit the visual customization capabilities of the program—I hate white backgrounds with small black text, and I don't like reading in columns on a computer; I don't like eBooks that try to simulate the feel of a real book; I'm in favor of ebooks with somewhat large text, black backgrounds, single columns and pastel fonts). Ren'Py works better for plays than anything else I've seen (if you take the time to convert them; and, at least with it I can customize the appearance how I like).

If I really wanted to, I could use librivox recordings for the voice overs, heh, heh.

The download link was broken. I fixed it with the Ren'Py mirror; I should probably upload the script or something. EDIT: I just uploaded the script; see the first post of this thread below the Windows download.
