I decided to turn Shakespear's
A Midsummer Night's Dream into something readable on a visual novel engine. The script is almost word for word (that was part of the idea; I thought plays would convert over pretty well). This isn't a very serious project, other than the words, though (although they're not arranged poetically, as that wouldn't work so well in this format). The art is all I could find (for free), given the time that went into it—and I wasn't about to draw my own. (There are a lot of characters!) There is no music what-so-ever (If you have any to add, let me know). You'll notice that the character art appears at the top in the middle. That might seem odd, but it was a lot easier that way. I might change that when I have time. Nevertheless, it might be entertaining:
Downloads:
•
Windows (you can get this to work on Linux, as well, I believe, through the shell script or the python file, but you'll need to make the GNU folder lowercase; there don't appear to be any problems if you use Wine, either; the original files I uploaded for Windows, Linux and Macintosh were deleted somehow—you can view it through the source below if you have Ren'Py)
•
Ren'Py source, script and images (this should be buildable to workable versions for all three platforms (Linux, Macintosh and Windows); the gnu folder is lowercase here)
After you unzip or decompress the file you download, open the folder and run the executable. This will start the game (there is no setup file).
If you have any art or music you would like to contribute, to improve upon this, let me know. Also, if there is anything else you know of that would make it better (without changing the script too much—it's meant to be the real play, word-wise), let me know. Let me know if this doesn't work on Windows 98/ME (it does use UTF-8 encoding, for the em dashes). It should work on anything at or beyond Windows 2000.
Ren'Py was the visual novel engine I used.
