Well that day we've all dreaded has come. When they first announced on April 1st that GL was being canceled on Sept. 18th, this day seemed so far away to me. But now it's here...Where did the time go?

I've been thinking about this for a while and I've decided not to do a recap of the show today.  I think I'll just let everyone post their thoughts and comments after you've watched the show today.   Not looking forward to this day at all.

I have very mixed feelings about the show today.  Maybe I'm just wishing there could have been more.  I feel like some things were left unfinished.  I won't go into any more details about what happened until after everyone's seen it.  I will say that I was very happy with what happened at the very end.

So long good friend. I'm going to miss my 10:00 am and 3:00 pm dates with you every day.

Strange...but it hasn't hit me yet.... I have just finished watching it..it was really great..but I am not crying. I think that I feel extremely lucky to have been able to watch this show for the short time I did..to get to know some amazing characters from the show...and from here. Here's to the Guiding Light...may it's light shine on forever!

Maybe it's not so strange, because I've felt the same way today.

Have we prepared ourselves so much for this.... or cried ourselves out of it by now? Who knows...I guess the real test will be come Monday.

I don't know rew. I actually felt a little disappointed with today's show. I guess I was hoping for more. What I'd like to know is what the hell happened with Jeffrey and Edmund?  But I am happy that Reva and Josh got together in the end.  I am glad that all the couples got together and everyone was happy...maybe the disappointment is in knowing that we will never see where all that leads.  I also didn't like the way they jumped from today to a year from now with no warning. Even though I knew they were going to do that, when they come back from a commercial and all the sudden Henry is a different kid...it threw me for a second.  I thought there would be some kind of lead up to that part.  I also thought maybe they'd have a group thing with the cast at the end saying thanks to their fans or good bye or something.   Monday morning will seem really strange though not watching the show at 10 o'clock.  I could do a recap on Rachel Ray since that is probably what I'll be watching now..lol.

Well I cried today again. I was saying my goodbyes to cast when they showed the one year from now scenes.  I missed seeing Vanessa and Alex there. I too hate that they showed Mallet and Dinah but left out what had happened to Jeffrey and Edmund. I cried the most when I said my goodbye to my favorite bad girl Reva... Kim is such a superb actress and I will miss seeing her. It's funny my daughter called right before it came on and we were talking about the light and some of the things we watched together. She remembered us going to the local mall when she was 8 years old to see Rusty!! She also remembers the kiss we both got from him...she said she wanted to see him in the final shows and was saddened that he wasn't there along with Hawk. I will miss my light but it will shine forever in my heart or dare I say it...yes ALWAYS!!!!!

I wish there could have been more too. I am so sad to see it end. I thought it was a very good sendoff, but I agree with you that maybe they could have had something on the screne saying 1 year later... Oh well, I guess they figured we would figure it out. LOL I am so happy that they let my favorite guy Cyrus have a really decent life working with Remy and STILL with Mel after a year!! I just wish we could see more. I did love the way it ended ..everyone in a happy place! Thought that was great how Rick ended up with Mindy and that they will be married. And yes, I was happy that Reva and Josh ended up together, although I do wish they wouldn't have left Jeffrey forever chasing Ole Eddie Boy. But I guess that had to be for a Reva\Josh reunion. I missed seeing Vanessa. Why wouldn't they have her on the last show? I thought that was a bit strange. And I really loved how the show ended...with Josh and Reva driving away in HB's truck!...with the words The End. I will miss you Guiding Light!!!!!

I totally agree! Would it have killed them to have put up some type of warning like "a year later"  and yes.... what the hell happened between Edmund and Jeffery...it leaves it kind of messy there doesn't it... I mean..he didn't die...not that we know of...but now Reva is with Josh...not really a clean break in our minds because WE know that he is still alive.... and actually it makes me wonder...why didn't Johnathon finally confide in his mom and tell her the truth about Jeffery? hmmmmmmmm

oh well like you said...not all the threads were gathered up...but just enough to make us wince and wonder.

I think I was in denial...I did not watched the show until 6:00.  I also wondered what happened to Jeffrey and Edmond? My hubby saids that we would have to wait for the movie.. and I said, I only wish! I did like how everything else was wrapped up everyone looked so happy. Rew you are so right..the real test does come on Monday! it's going to be a black Monday for me and I don't mean shopping.

It said One Year Later...right after the commercial break and went right to Marina with Henry and Shayne. Your local station might have cut that out. After watching it on tv I then watched online and saw that some of that had happened here....Pissed me off!!!

To All,  I share in the loss.  This was a show that gave us hope of true family and true life in a small town.  I enjoyed the writing this past week and also wish that drama like this could transcend to the other shows.  Let me make my Top Ten of this week:
1.  Olivia and Natalia's Relationship-I wish Luke and Noah could have that same approach to their story.
2.  Alan Spaulding's Death and Redemption.  I was moved by the love he received even from those who were once enemies.  The sacrifice for Phillip and making amends with those he wronged.
3.  Michelle and Danny/Mindy/Jonathan/ Return Home.  Families complete.
4.  Billy & Vanessa/Buzz & Lillian Double Wedding.  The ultimate display of friendship and love.
5.  Doris and Ashley.  Mother and daughter fully accept and love each other.
6.  Reva and Josh .  What a lovely way to close.  Reva looked like Earth Mother.  Forgive me all, I have been crying while typing.
7.  Mel and Remy.  Mel finds love with Cyrus.  Remy and Christina finally are legally married and are happy about their child.
8.  Alex and Fletcher.  They will now have the freedom to be happy and enjoy each other from now on.
9.  Nola, Bridget, Ed, Holly.  I wish them well.
10. May we pray that one day another network could pick this show up and make it rich with the Springfield Magic we have come to know!

God Speed "Guiding Light-God Speed!"

Thank You All,
Myles

I just also want all to know, I submitted a suggestion to NBC to see if they can pick up "Guiding Light."  It would not be the first time a CBS soap did it.  "Search For Tomorrow" did that back in the early eighties.  I just hope they may consider.  I am not giving up on "The Light!"

Thank You All,
Myles

Well I think I liked the ending. I guess the only way to end it is with reva and josh together. I can accept that. They wrapped all the storylines and we know what happened with everyone...except Jeffrey and Edmund.  I was thinking maybe Jeffrey would be in the bushes watching Josh and Reva with Colin...no such luck though.  I don't get that they covered everything but left me hanging on that one tidbit. I liked the fast forward to a year ahead...everyone still together and happy. Although when the Josh made the date to meet reva in a year...I thought that it would end like that and leave us wondering if she decdes to meet him. I expected a little more of a cliffhanger I guess. Something big....but in the end...it was good. I am gonna miss this show so much.  it always been apart of my life.  I know it just a soap and they are actors, but my gosh...since I was a little girl I watched this show.  I read everyone's reply...mentioning that the test will be Monday.  How true!  This entire week was such a good week for the charactors and stories. Just when it was pulling together it ends. What now?

I could definitely see my local station cutting it out...which obviously they did
since I didn't see the 1 year later....thanks for the info!

Wow! that was so nice...I only wish that it would become true! but the thing is that most of them already have other contracts and would be difficult to get them all together again...but I will keep hoping!

ive gotta agree it was finally pulling together.   it needed all of our favorites to come back again.   if they did this sooner the show wouldnt have slipped in the ratings.   and what the hell was up with jeffrey and edmond.   i dont get it.  jeffrey told edmond he was going home yesterday and everybody still believes hes dead.  i think i missed something.  i guess we are to assume that mallet and dinah are a couple now?   i hope so because i never liked him with marina.  yes i know they are a real life couple.

Even if some are under contract now, they can still find their way back. I am sure with a little writing and storyline development, they can get "The Light!" back. Keep The Faith!

‘Guiding Light’ Fades to Black
By Julie Bloom

 Robert Voets/Associated Press
Kim Zimmer and Robert Newman, who starred as Reva and JoshUpdate

 | 3:06 p.m. “You ready?” asked Josh. “Always,” Reva said. And thus the soap opera “Guiding Light” ended its long run with a final episode Friday morning on CBS. The show’s ultimate couple, played by Kim Zimmer, who created the role of Reva in 1983, and Robert Newman, who first appeared on the show in 1981, closed the episode with a declaration of love at the local lighthouse before driving away in a pickup truck, the Associated Press reported.

The end of “Guiding Light” has created almost as much drama as the soap opera, the longest-running scripted program in broadcasting history, ever produced. Longtime viewers of the show have expressed their strong feelings over the exit of Reva, Josh, Beth, Jeffrey, Rick, Lizzie and their fellow citizens of Springfield with a range of sadness, anger, and disbelief. This morning, CBS finally aired the last episode. Did you watch and did the finale live up to your expectations? Let us know.
