What is the Union trying to do for the RCA's if the PO decideds to go to a 5 day work week? This could make alot of the RCA's look for other work. How are they going to be able to work for a company that is actually trying to eliminate their jobs. We need to work to keep a 6 day delivery for the future of the Rural carrier craft. Does anyone else see to the problems we will have if we go to 5 day delivery?

I do not see the NRLCA or the USPS taking into account the need for RCA/subs if and when the 5 day work week starts.  In fact it seems so stupid not see this as a problem.  That I have to believe it something they as a joint organization would want to over look to cause a problem or sabotage the 5 day work week

Noppie, If you think the PO cares a wit about non-career employees re. RCA's, you are truly un-informed. They don't care much for career employees, in any craft, fer as I can tell.

First of all, I don't believe 5 day delivery will pass. Congress can't agree on which day they will phase out (some believe the PO shouldn't close 2 days in a row every week and want Tue, Wed or Thu to be the day phased out), there have been no details as to whether or not we would work 4 days or 5 if it ever passed, Susan Collins has told Potter that it won't make it out of committee, and even if it does, it doesn't have 60 votes to kill a Senate fillibuster.
The PO hasn't given us any details, but you can bet it will be a disaster for us. It's in our contract that they can renegotiate the time standards if we ever do go to 5 day delivery, and that won't be pretty. To answer your question, I'd say the NRLCA has been working hard on Capitol Hill to make sure it doesn't pass in the first place, which would be good news for subs and regulars alike.
