Hi dev's,

This is a reminder that according to our schedule, we are due for
5.6.0-beta3 tomorrow. Unless we decide to push the beta a bit, I plan on
packaging it tomorrow (Wednesday) night.

A few issues have been resolved since last beta, but the list is still
very long. There are also several open tickets in Trac for past release
milestones that need to be cleaned up. I have started doing that today
and will continue tomorrow.
See the Roadmap page in Trac for an idea of what I mean:
http://trac.osgeo.org/mapserver/roadmap

It would be great if you could all take a bit of time to go through your
respective list of open tickets, and move those from the pre-5.6
milestones to 5.6 or 6.0 (depending on when you plan on addressing them).

Beta3 should have been the last beta according to our plan and next week
should be the first release candidate, but I don't feel that we'll be
ready and we may need to have at least another beta before the RC.

I think it could help to have an IRC meeting to talk a bit about the
release. Would Thursday morning at 11am EDT work for everyone?

Sorry, been stuck in meetings all day. Couple of things:

1) I'd like to wait on beta 3 until ticket #3152 is fixed, working on it tonite. I think I know
what's wrong but it will take some time to test.

2) I think we'll need another beta. There has been a lot of change in the last week and
ticket #3157 (http://trac.osgeo.org/mapserver/ticket/3157) just showed up today and
should be checked out. Plus, ticket #3024 (http://trac.osgeo.org/mapserver/ticket/3024)
still needs resolution (perhaps backing out a change to lookup templates by mime-type).

I had just started packaging the beta3 release when I saw your mail. I
fully agree on everything you just wrote so I'll stop and wait until
tomorrow for beta3:

- #3152 is high priority since it affects not only the release but also
the benchmarking effort, so let's wait until tomorrow for your fix so
that benchmarking can use the official beta3 and not a patched version

- We're already on #3157 with Alan and Thomas. I'll see if we can get
this one in before beta3 tomorrow (waiting on feedback in the ticket,
you are CC'd)

- #3024 is a tricky one. I don't think it will make beta3, but it's very
important that we solve it ASAP.

Finally, given the state of things, I agree that we'll need at least
another beta before the first RC and was going to suggest that as well.
