2morro festival - free tickets

Hello everyone

First let me declare that I am not a teenager.  I work for
substance.coop, based in Manchester.  The project I work on is called
Plings - about Places to Go, Things to Do data/information on activities
for teenagers.  I recently gave a talk at the Manchester Free Software,
which Tim kindly videoed ( http://ur1.ca/5vqj ) !!

We are involved in the 2morro festival ( http://www.2morro.org/ ), which
will take place in central London on the 4th July, that states:

"Our generation want a better world. 2morro 09 will be the biggest ever
festival in the UK for young people interested in changing the world and
getting heard. Learn how to use technology and media to run your
campaigns better, showcase and share your plans for a better future, and
join us for a packed day where you can debate, explore and celebrate new
possibilities."

We will have stuff going on at the festival, alongside lots of other
activities.  The reason I am emailing the list is that we have a limited
number of tickets available, which we would like to offer to members of
the list who are 16-24 (sorry, those are the 2morro rules!).  We also
realise that trekking down to London can be an expensive process, so
substance are also willing to provide day return tickets from Manchester
(or elsewhere in the NW if we can) for people - the sooner you can let
us know, the quicker we can book tickets!

Why are we doing this?  Well, we are partners in 2morro, but also a
locally based workers cooperative.  We think people from the NW should
have the opportunity to attend and take part.

If people are interested, then either contact me or the list and we can
take it from there.  Would be best to know of numbers by 25th June ideally

Thanks

Steven

Who's thinking of going down? I think it sounds awesome to be honest..

We should probably talk to Steven by tomorrow...

What are people's thoughts?

I'm interested in going, and would be going from either Manchester or
Wilmslow ticket wise. It looks like an amazing opportunity to learn a
lot and network with other people who are interested in the same kind
of projects.

thanks,

I'm also interested. I'll be going from Manchester stations on that day.

Can't wait - hopefully I am allowed to go!

Stephen. :-)

I plan on going along, but I live in Bristol, so will be able to make
my own way there. Other people have expressed an interest in going, but
they seem to be rather shy on the mailing list. Hopefully they will talk
to Tim or something instead?

I'd love to go but I can't.  Really a shame!  I will get to go to something like this one day!

I would be interested in going to this, I live near London and as it
happens will be traveling there on that day anyway, so if anyone else
does go then I'd love to join you. (I don't know if the timing of the
train I need to catch in London will fit in yet, but I'm going to try
and fit it in.)

I'd be really interested in going but am based in Wolverhampton. Would it be possible for me to go? I'd need to take the train from Wolverhampton as opposed to Manchester as it seems like a pretty long and packed day. I think it could be a fantastic opportunity to meet others who're interested in this kind of thing!

Hey Isabel,

Don't worry this won't be the last thing we do (I hope not at least!!)
since you'll be in Britain from the autumn things should be a whole lot
easier for you to get to.

But yeah, at the moment I can sympathise; it does suck to miss out on
stuff. :(

Catch up soon,

Tim

Yep I hope so.  I might not be able to come to the NW but at least I can maybe do stuff in London.

It does indeed, I don't think there is much like this in France, even in Bordeaux.

Hi Steven,

I've been wondering what substance.coop 's motivations really are for this event. From my perspective it really looks like something for nothing. Is it that you want to get kids around the Manchester area involved in this sort of activity then?

Sure. But it's only a matter of time before something starts up in the
SE. I was kinda hoping you and roberthl could have a chat about doing
something like that but that obviously thats not possible

I think a DFEY-SE would get going fairly quickly - it just needs a few
people to drive it. :)

Probably not... but this is just a beginning... we need to help
encourage technically minded young people everywhere to get to know each
other and do stuff with free software.

We'll talk about this more when you move back to England... :)

Hi All

Many thanks for  the interest - I was beginning to get worried for a moment!

To reiterate:

- Substance are a partner in the 2morro event
- We have a ticket allocation
- We have a budget to get people there
- We want to help people attend from outside London, esp the NW (although Bristol is also fine!)

That's our motivation.  We figured that this list might be a group of people most interested in the event, hence my email.

To get a ticket for 2morro we need an name and email - and assurance that you are aged 16-24

To get you a train ticket, we *may* need your postal address, but would prefer not.  I'm hoping someone (Tim?) from DfEY could help coordinate and distribute...

I am in Birmingham today, but back in the office 2morro (ha!) - perhaps if I people could confirm (off list?) that they wish to attend, we can then work on the logistics of getting train tickets to people?

Many thanks again - and should anyone have further questions - or need to get questions answered, then by all means drop me a line or give me a ring in the office

Best wishes

Steven

Oh.  I couldn't have come anyway, I'm 15 until next year!  Annoyingly,
I'm probably younger than everyone involved in DFEY!

Lol. Well there are a several people who a bit younger than you actually!

It doesn't really mean that much to be honest though - its just a number
at the end of the day - it's what you know that counts.

Really sorry - as I said, these are the rules from the 2morro organisers.  I will speak to them tomorrow (sic) and find out exactly why this is the starting age

Thanks

It's okay, but thanks.  I won't be able to come anyway, but from my
limited experience I think that they've put that as the starting age
because it is the minimum age for lots of things in England and the
age of 'minimum adulthood', if you understand my meaning.

i think depending on agancy,
