All,

In my capacity as CRO, I have begun the elections planning process. Herewith:

* I need immediate feedback on the NUMBER OF NEW MEMBERS for the first
stage of the process.
* I need to hear from Bob, Markus, Jo, Jeroen on whether you are
standing for the board again.

Once I have this information, I can start the process.

http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Election_2009

Thanks!

Paul

My take is that we should aim any at getting at least 15 new Charter
Members but allow up to a maximum of 30. This will compensate for drop
outs who we cannot identify until after the process when they have
repeatedly not voted or became active in another way. It is still small
enough a share to prevent OSGeo from being taken over by an evil flash
mob. Last year was unfortunate in that we had to turn down some potential
members who would have been a good addition.

You have not scheduled the election for the president yet. I did not
receive a notable number of comments to my suggestion to prolong the
president's term. Thus we will have to stick to our schedule and nominate
and vote again this year, this should probably show up somewhere in the
announcements. I am prepared to stay for another term if I get nominated.

If we need to change anything else in the voting process documents I again
suggest to prolong the president's term to allow for some more continuity.

Best regards,
Arnulf.

The important number is the maximum. Maximum 30 is a fairly large
amount, based on nominations from last time, its basically "everyone".
If you have a preference, board members, express it, or I will take
the expressed number (30).

Yes, I guess because it's (election of the president, officers) not a
function of the membership, it's a function of the board, no?

Works for me.

Right - once the board is chosen, then the board can have the discussion
about filling or confirming the president and treasurer roles.
Fortunately we don't have presidential elections in OSGeo. :)

Thanks folks. The wiki currently says that Markus and Jeroen are
standing again and that me, Jo and Bob are not (based on what I've
heard informally at various times). Please change it, if I am
incorrect!

I've been recently asked about the status of the 2009 new charter
members vote, and my foggy brain seems to remember an email mentioning
all nominated were accepted, but I can't find that email or any mention
of this on the elections page[1] or on the charter members page[2].
Maybe those pages should be updated and a message should be sent to
announce?

Yes, I was wondering the same. I never saw the list of nominees. We
might even need to look up whether there is any process involved in us
(the Board, OSGeo, whoever) having to approve new members. Did we not
implement a security hook to prevent malign folks form invading us or
something like that (maybe I am confusing this with the German LC bylaws).

Regards, Arnulf.
