[Proposal] XE 1.7 Roadmap

Hi there,

Today is XE 1.6 release date so let's start planning for XE 1.7.

Here are the dates (to reach a release for Javapolis 2008):

- 1.7M1: 20th of October (that's more than 3 weeks after the 1.6  
release)
- 1.7M2: 10th of November (3 weeks after 1.7M1)
- 1.7RC1: 17 Nov (one week after)
- 1.7RC2 or final: 24 Nov (one week after)
- 1.7 final (if needed): 1st of December

Thus it's a short release (2 months).

Proposed content:

* Working and usable (i.e. users can use them for their day to day  
work instead of the old Syntax and old WYSIWYG editor) versions of new  
rendering and new WYSIWYG editor. (Vincent, Thomas, Marius)
* Working JCR (can be used for day to day work instead of Hibernate).  
(Artem)
* French XE (Jean-Vincent)
* Blog revamping (Sergiu)
* Webdav integration (Asiri)

And bug fixes of course.

Anything else planned? (I think we should be careful not to over  
commit).

I'd like to have Office import too (Wang Ning) but I don't know how  
much time he'll get.

The list looks good to me. I'll try to dedicate as much time as possible to
testing of the rendering & WYSIWYG editor during those 2 months. I will also
help JV by contributing translations for the French XE.

Marta & I made a detailed list of planned blog improvements and their
priority order, I'll try to publish it on dev.xwiki.org soon for review.

It woud be great to have it but I guess that will depend on Wang Ning.

And Jean-Vincent since he'll work on the automated functional tests  
framework for the GWT editor + on the improved inline edit feature  
that we need for the new rendering too.

Sergiu just to be sure does this mean you're not sure to be able to do  
the Blog revamp for 1.7 or that you'll be able to do it but nothing  
more?

This is important since we must have this blog revamp for 1.7 so we'll  
need someone else to work on it if not you (and Marta) and I don't  
know who that could be for now.

Concerning xwiki-webdav, following is what I have in mind.

* Complete XWiki-UI integration : 1.7M1
* Complete FoXWiki integration : 1.7M1
* complete Generic webdav functionality (with basic authentication) : 1.7M1
* Complete (Implement) Digest authentication : 1.7M2
* Complete / Fix the documentation at
http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/XWikiWebDAV : 1.7M2

Sorry, but it's much harder than I thought to hunt a job, especially
this year(because of American financial crisis, many company cut the
hire count). A lot things to do. I really have little time on this
project. Sorry for this. But I will devote to it as soon as I have
