FYI, Mac OS X's HFS+ supports slash but not colon, and UNIX supports colon but
not slash, so the OS swaps the two depending on context. If you create a file
in the Finder with a slash, terminals see it as a colon. If you create a file
in the terminal with a colon, the Finder sees it as a slash.
My guess is that the Mac version of Audacity is using a file viewer that sees
the Finder view of files, which can contain slashes, but it is internally using
some UNIXy library that assumes they are illegal. The solution is probably to
have slash-colon swapping where appropriate for each library.
