A sabot round I chambered slow,
It was a point two seven oh.
I slid it in my nice Mark Six,
And cleared the path of all loose sticks.
Upon the ground I laid my arm,
To keep my rifle from all harm.
Hot loaded to perform the task,
Just one clear shot is all I ask.
I have the picture in my mind,
Of the target I must find.
Two thousand yards from where I lay,
My target needs to die this day.
A thousand lives depend on me,
To hit the target that I see.
A uniform of brown and green,
And stars that have a golden sheen.
I hate this war that makes of me,
The killer that I must now be.
Assassins bullet must fly true,
Be glad the target isn't you.
My target sighted, aim is true.
The trigger squeezed, the bullet flew.
Straight for the spot where crosshairs met.
Faster than a speeding jet.
One second he was standing there,
The next his head was everywhere.
I hate this job at which I'm good.
I only wish my heart was wood.
A record shot was what they said,
I only knew a man was dead.
I hate this war that makes of me,

Practicing belligerence
Ruining my sanctity
Losing sight of my sanity

My tears stain this rug
A darker shade of green
A shade to match my envy
A testament to my jealousy
The words I write come out all wrong
So I’ll live my life through another’s song
And I scream "Oh God, why me?"
Cry out to this entity
In which I don’t believe
My stomach is a thousand knots
And the acid makes me sick
An exorcism is in order.
Demon out. Demon out.
My thoughts are all in disarray.
Put them down in black and white
Hope for clarity to materialize
History dictates that efforts are futile
And history always repeats
War after war after war after...
So I’m scripting new chapters
With this internal battle
